Keynote Speaker United Way Campaign Kickoff |
Hello. My name is Anthony Escobar and I currently serve as the Scout Executive for the Inland Northwest Council in Spokane, Washington.
Before arriving in Spokane, I served as the Scout Executive for the Caddo Area Council in Texarkana, Texas. I served as the Assistant Director of Field Service in the Heart of America Council in Kansas City Missouri & Kansas. I came to Kansas City from the Golden Spread Council in Amarillo, Texas, where I served as their Field Director. Before Amarillo, I served as the District Director in the Conquistador Council in Roswell, New Mexico. I began my professional Scouting career as a District Executive at the Sequoia Council in Fresno, California. I have served six councils, over twenty-two years, in the Western, Central and Southern Regions. I have served multiple volunteer positions, including den leader, day camp staff, and popcorn kernel. I am a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. |
Scoutmaster, Troop 288Webelos Den Leader |
Among my most memorable Scouting experiences was the five-years I spent serving as the Scoutmaster for Troop 288, in Orange Cove, California. We had a motto in our Troop, "If we were not on a campout, then we were planning our next campout." I think the adult leaders and parents had more FUN than the Scouts. I was not a Scout as a boy. My parents did not know about Scouting, there was no unit at my school and we never received an invitation. During this time my dad and granddad took me hiking, fishing, camping and hunting, all the time. If we had the opportunity, I am convinced I would have had a FUN and memorable Scouting experience. I firmly believe that most young boys and girls want to shoot a BB-gun, catch a fish, and make s’mores around a campfire. But not every boy and girl, and not every family, has been introduced to the values, benefits and FUN of our Scouting movement. Not every family has received an invitation to join. Most importantly, some families have not received a second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh touch point. It is up to each one of us, it is our responsibility, to deliver that invitation, to invite every family to join with us in Scouting! Included we must ensure that we serve the under-served, that all boys and girls and all families have the opportunity to participate in our Scouting movement. We must ensure that money is never a barrier for a family to join with us.
